Tempest are set to release a new mini album at the end of the month, but today they’ve unveiled the kind of for-the-fans pre-release that cobbles together behind-the-scenes footage to highlight what’s clearly more of a b-side than promoted single.
In the grand scheme of pre-releases, Destiny is neither here nor there. It’s the typical end-of-concert singalong, offering vague proclamations about the fated relationship between fan and artist. Sometimes I wonder who actually still believes this schtick, but maybe I’m just jaded after seeing these same tropes being recycled over the decades. The song itself is sugar sweet but lacks the unique melodic vision needed to transform itself into something beyond fan service. By the time we reach the chanted, hands-in-the-air refrain it almost feels like this is a track written by AI.
On the plus side, it’s nice to hear the guys belting out the notes and while everything here is super derivative it’s also harmless fluff. However, I’d much rather listen to Can’t Stop Shining if I’m in the mood for a pop song pick-me-up.
