Track-by-Track: Freeze the Fall – ‘The Red Garden’

We got a track-by-track breakdown of Freeze the Fall‘s new album, The Red Garden, out June 18 via 604 Records.

“The Red Garden was always going to be a concept album.” the band say about the record. “It’s basically two things. First it’s a story, a fairytale that serves as a metaphor for the larger world that we live in. Within that fairytale, there is a Kingdom, home to a cast of characters, each of whom represents some facet of the world. Second, it’s also a lyrical exploration of common social issues we are all prey to. The interconnectedness between technology and the dangers of anonymity and isolation that leads to misplaced and misused power. The EP focuses on those concepts and the inevitable loneliness we feel even when surrounded by others because technology and false information consume us, but it also reminds us there is hope, that we’re all born with a compass of childhood that can lead us towards better choices and deeper empathy.

Hypothermia
Flower: Bleeding Heart
Character: The Spectator
Theme: This is a song about who people become when they have the freedom of anonymity and the cruelty that can consume. Online, people can say anything about anyone—often with little to no consequences. This continues as a never-ending cycle where everyone feels obligated to meet unrealistic expectations set on social media.

Rot
Flower: Corpse Flower
Character: The Jester
Theme: Rot; a song that shows the addictive nature of phones and how we’re blinded by the lies we consume on a daily basis. The majority of what distracts us is mis-informative, and we are consumed by it. This song explores how we are fed information and accept it as it comes, and how, over time, we are becoming complacent to that misinformation.

Aurora
Flower: Aster.
Character: The People.
Theme: This song explores that idea that we all live under the same sky; we all experience the same feelings and run into the same challenges. The similarities between us all often go unrecognized, leading to feelings of loneliness even when we are surrounded by others. But ultimately, we should all be able to respect and understand each other. In doing so, we can freely waltz across the sky like the northern lights.

Oubliette
Flower: Moonflower.
Character: The Prisoner.
Theme: This song delves into the longing of returning to a different time in your life. A time that was simpler, or a time before you made a mistake that stays with you. It expresses the insanity that we can feel as we look back on our lives and wonder if we did what was right, and what does “right” even mean?

Lace
Flower: Baby’s Breath.
Character: The Child.
Theme: This song reminds us of the hope.  The concept of this album explores the dangers of the world we live in. “Lace” reminds us that when we come into the world, we are full of innocence; a strong compass of good lies within.  If we can find our way back to that place, there is hope.”
