Storage + Shelving
This one seems obvious, but you can never overstate the importance of storage in a kid’s room!
Having clearly designated spaces like the timber Willow Toy Box from Tasman Eco where they can easily put all their toys, art supplies, and anything else out of view is the best way to avoid clutter and encourage your child to keep their space clean.
We also love Mustard Made’s range of colourful lockers, like The Shorty, which is the perfect size to keep by a bed.
Plus, open shelves such as In Good Company’s String Shelving System are a great way to display some personality. Style the top shelves with objects you want to keep out of kid’s reach, and keep more practical things like books on the bottom level.
Beds + Cots
There’s so many children’s beds and cots to choose from these days, it can be a bit overwhelming. Our advice is to pick something durable and timeless, like the Cuba Single or King Single Bed from Beeline Design that features hard-wearing timber with woven leather details.
The simplicity of the Luna Timber King Single Bed is another good option, with its Scandi-inspired design.
But for a baby, the Archie Cot by Tasman Eco is ideal, as it can be converted into different configurations as your little one grows up: transforming from a bassinet, to a traditional cot, and a toddler bed too!
Bedside Tables
If you do keep the bed relatively simple, why not select something a bit more playful for the bedside table?
The Kartell Componibili Bio 3 Round Storage Unit from Space Furniture has a funky silhouette and sliding doors where your little one can keep their favourite objects, or perhaps make a statement with the bold Chub Table from local brand Fearon.
For something slightly more minimal but still age-appropriate, you can’t go past a unique shaped timber table like the hand-crafted Squiggle Side Table from TS Makers.

Chairs
A comfortable armchair is essential in a kid’s room. Not only will the Suffolk Armchair by Koala or the Huggy Swivel Armchair by ELLISON STUDIOS. be a great spot for parents or visitors to sit and play (providing a much-needed reprieve from sitting on the floor!) but it also makes a great reading chair for those slightly older kids.
A desk chair is another must-have, and the Kevi Kids Chair Montana from Cult is designed especially for children between 3 and 12 years old.
Lighting
A little lamp is a good way to bring a pop of colour to a kid’s room. We love Fenton & Fenton’s Cindy Table Lamp with its candy pink stripes, while the Arum Portable Lamp from Trit House is a good portable option without cords — allowing you to use it as a reading lamp at night and easily move it out of reach afterwards.
And you can’t go past the George Nelson Saucer Bubble Pendant from Lights Lights Lights. Investing in an elegant pendant light will instantly elevate the space, making sure it’s stylish for young kids all the way up to teenage children, and beyond!
