Video Premiere: Friendship Commanders – “Melt”

Check out the new track and video from Friendship Commanders, “Melt” ahead of their two-single July 15 release of this song alongside the track “Keeping Score,” out via Magnetic Eye Records.

The Nashville band co-produced the song with Buick Audra (guitars, vocals), Jerry Roe (drums, bass), and longtime collaborator Kurt Ballou, who also tracked the instrumental performances and mixed the single. The video was directed and edited by Jerry Roe, shot by Jarad Clement and Jerry Roe.

Of the single, Audra says:

“‘Melt’ is about realizing I’ve never really fit with my own kind, something I’ve only come to terms with in the last two years or so. I’ve spent so much time and energy trying to be a woman among women, but at the end of the day, I’m just always over here being too loud. Too much. And yet, somehow also not enough. It’s a stunning paradox, really. Musically, the song has a sugary quality to it, which is also referenced in the line, ‘that’s how they punch you, sugar over fists.’ This track beats me up because it’s so painfully true, but it’s also a delight to play.”

Of the video, Jerry Roe says:

I really connected with Buick’s lyrics and the theme of always being the one that sticks out and doesn’t belong, so I wanted to film the video at DRKMTTR, a venue here in Nashville where we’ve found community and belonging. I also wanted to surround us with members of our local music community that we consider friends and peers, and I couldn’t be happier with who ended up in it.”
