Greetings, Decibel readers!
It’s a week of doom and gloom with the latest from Clairvoyance, Incinerated and (the last?) Eternal Darkness!
In the meantime, I’ll be seeing Ancient Death tonight and can’t wait to see what all the fuss is about, will definitely report back next week.
Enjoy!

Clairvoyance – Chasm of Immurement
You want heavy? These guys are heavy. This is some supremely crushing death-doom that plays like Autopsy, Incantation, Bolt Thrower and Runemagick all got together and had a big party … in hell.

Dephosphorus – Planetoktonos
I like a band with a taste for the literary in life. Apparently these guys are really into The Expanse and Nick Bostrom’s exploration into super-intelligence. Oh, and it’s also really solid death metal, played in a style the band likes to call “Astrogrind.” I also respect a band that gives a name to their own microgenre.

Eternal Darkness – Eternal Darkness
Eternal Darkness, they’re back! Well, actually no they’re gone again now. But that’s ok, they’ve left us with a modern death-doom classic with this self-titled masterwork. If you want to learn a little more about the album, check out Chris Dick’s story about it in Decibel #251.

Filth – Time to Rot
The name fits. The artwork fits. It all comes together on this album, from the putrid riffs to the searing vocals to the devastating rhythms. If you’re looking for no-nonsense death metal, make this EP you’re next “Odious Obsession.”

Incinerated – The Epitome of Transgression
Dense, disorienting, dissonant blackened death metal. This is the Indonesian band’s second album, following up 2020’s Stellar Abomination. Don’t let the epic song lengths deter you, there’s lots of excitement to be found on this introspective work of extreme art.
