Track Premiere: Sunburster – ‘Jinn’

Philly sludge act Sunburster have been around for more than a decade, with plenty of releases under their belt but never a full-length… until now. No Semblance Of Peaceful Existence is set for an October 24 release on Knife Hits Records, but you can take in all the slow-moving misery of first offering “Jinn” right now.

Staring with a quick sample, “Jinn” gets straight to the chugging, in-your-face riffs with one hell of a low end. Vocalist Mike Murro has a mean growl, the kind that sounds indebted to long nights and hard living.

“‘Jinn’ is just a deeper dive into the sludge swamp that Sunburster is known and loved (or loathed?) for,” Murro tells Decibel. “More tales of stagnant filth and inner demons not going anywhere, coupled with being several years older thus even more cemented into a realm of hopelessness that seems inescapable most days. All that and the anger that comes with it is unleashed in this song.”
