Track Premiere: Elepharmers – ‘Drifter’

Do you like your stoner metal in the fun, rocking, European variety? Any reader who answered “yes” to that question will love Elepharmers, a doom/psych trio from Sardinia, Italy. The long-running group are gearing up to release Western Wilderness, their fourth album and one that sees the band return to their stoner-doom fundamentals.

“Drifter” is the second peek at Western Wilderness and it provides a good look at what to expect on the album: downtuned riffs, a bouncy rhythm section and guitar solos that nearly get lost in all the haze. Compared to the more crowded songwriting and performances on Elepharmers’ last album, Lords of Galaxia, “Drifter” is a welcome return to a classic stoner rock and metal sound.

“‘Drifter’ is the second single and opens the B-side of the album,” Elepharmers explain. “It’s a stoner-doom track built on sulfurous downtuned riffs and 2/4 grooves that flow into desert rock rides.”

Western Wilderness is out on October 24 via Electric Valley Records (get it here in North America) but you can hear “Drifter” below.
