PGA TOUR 2K25 Interview – Expert Game Designer Craig Chapman Talks Archetype Favorites, Trick Shots, and More

Gamers Heroes

I first went with the Greenskeeper Archetype in PGA TOUR 2K25, as my putting game could use some work – it helped tremendously! Since PGA TOUR 2K25’s launch earlier this year, have you noticed any people gravitating toward any certain Archetypes?

Craig Chapman

The Greenskeeper will certainly help you find success with the flat stick. Initially there appeared to be 2 camps, with Powerhouse and Technician making up the majority of MyPLAYERs. With Season 3 we’ve seen the Magician gain a lot of popularity, with Sculptor and Greenskeeper not too far behind.

Gamers Heroes

I saw there’s a lively PGA TOUR 2K Subreddit with close to 35K members! How have you been able to integrate community feedback over the development period of PGA TOUR 2K25 for the different Archetypes?

Craig Chapman

Our community, from the roots of our old forums to various facets of social media, and definitely the subreddit, has always helped shape our franchise. We have a number of extremely passionate developers that pay close attention to our community. So many ideas and features have been born from conversations and suggestions within our community.

Gamers Heroes

What are some Archetypes employees/developers gravitate toward?

Craig Chapman

Even with over 4,000 hours in, my go-to is always the Sculptor. The balance of power and shaping makes long par 5 approaches reachable, and the ability to combat the slopes of the greens with spin and shape goes a long way. My builds usually favor Swing Path and Contact first, with Shaping and Rhythm second.

I haven’t run a poll or anything, maybe I should have, but I’d say it’s a pretty even split between Technicians and Magicians right now.

Gamers Heroes

What are the most impressive feats you’ve seen in PGA TOUR 2K25 since launch? I’ve seen a lot of pro golfers on social media nailing the most incredible shots!

Craig Chapman

There’s too many.

Some of the early hole-in-ones were really satisfying to see, like zcolbster’s 203 yarder at Royal Portrush on Legend Difficulty. Another just entertaining shot was Kawkster’s blindfolded bunker hole out. He was as surprised as anyone that it dropped. There’s far too many to list, with literally hours of clips of amazing golf being played.

Gamers Heroes

What was the most surprising thing you found out when fine-tuning the different PGA TOUR 2K25 Archetypes?

Craig Chapman

The most surprising thing, for me, was how much depth and individuality we can offer with the Archetype system, in terms of how people can experience golf in PGA TOUR 2K25. From the 5 Archetypes and everything they can become, through progression, to using it as the backbone for creating our licensed Pros.

But honestly, we’re only getting started. The Archetype system is now a staple in PGA TOUR 2K, and it will continue to evolve and grow, just as we and our franchise has.

I appreciate the opportunity to speak a little about our game and our amazing community.

PGA TOUR 2K25 is now available for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
