There’s no better way to start a Friday than with a serving of dark, foreboding, and irresistibly catchy black metal. Änterbilia takes the classic sounds of bands like Gorgoroth and Darkthrone and plays in a style akin to bands like Ungfell and Kvelgeyst — raw and melancholy, but with an approach that can be experimental and unpredictable. Decibel is profoundly pleased therefore to debut the band’s new song, “Årsgång,” from their upcoming album Avart.
I of course love the riffs and vocals on this song, but the best part might be the various rhythms the band explores here. It’s deeply engaging to the listener and rewards you with each replay. Jerff, the band’s vocalist and one of its guitarists, is a big fan of D-beat punk, and you can definitely hear that shine through on this song. According to the band:
“With Avart, Änterbila plunges deeper into the shadows of folklore itself, abandoning the perspective of the wandering listener to inhabit the twisted minds of the damned. This is a journey told through the eyes of the characters who lived it. The album’s sound is as unflinching as its narrative—recorded with a raw, immediate energy, it captures the band’s collective power guided by their founding vision.”
Check out the song below. Avart comes out via Nordvis on November 14. For readers who want to preorder a physical copy of the vinyl or CD, head over to the Nordvis webstore.
