Double’s new Wild South collection was designed in collaboration with Jono Fleming.

The Quoin rug reflects the geometric precision of Tasmania’s historic stone architecture.

The collection was photographed in Tasmania.

Tasmania holds a special place in the heart of many who travel to the island, including Sydney-based interior designer Jono Fleming.

‘I’ve spent a lot of time there in recent years, travelling around the island, staying in incredible places, eating my weight in oysters,’ Jono says.

‘It’s become a muse for my work lately, the colours, the textures, and the feeling you get as soon as you arrive. Time slows down, it gives you a moment to pause and breathe,’

He even got married there last year. So when Australian rug brand Double approached Jono to create a collaboration, his personal connection to Tasmania jumped to mind as the perfect source of inspiration.

Joining forces with Double — known for its colourful and durable washable rugs — also felt like a perfect fit: ‘I always admired what they were doing, the quality, the simplicity, and how they design for real life.’

What they came up with is now the Wild South collection, featuring seven designs with some neutral variations.

‘Each one draws from a different part of Tasmania, almost like a postcard from the island,’ Jono says.

‘The idea was to capture not just the landscapes, but the feelings and moments tied to each place.’

This is reflected in the colours and patterns of each rug, in addition to their names.

Quoin references the stone quoin blocks on the corners of Hobart’s historic sandstone cottages, as Cradle captures the verdant green terrain and winding trails of Cradle Mountain.

Meanwhile, Ember echoes the fiery red lichen that clings to the rocks at the Bay of Fires.

Each rug in the Wild South collection is crafted with a mix of premium New Zealand wool, OEKO-TEX Certified Wool, or 100 per cent organic cotton.

The range was designed as a fuss-free alternative to traditional rug options, ensuring they can withstand the mess of daily life — from spills to messy kids, or pets.

‘These rugs were designed to work in a variety of homes,’ Jono says.

‘Some designs are a little louder, others are more subtle, but each one is about layering, grounding, and bringing a story into a room.’
