Video Premiere: Eshtadur – “Fire Above Mountain Below” (live)

You haven’t lived until you’ve heard the brass section of a symphony orchestra blasting away behind a Columbian death metal band. Let us give you a taste of four-piece Eshtadur performing “Fire Above Mountain Below” live in a Pereira, Colombia theater alongside a full symphonic orchestra. It’s bold, ambitious and strangely brutal and majestic. These dudes—Jorg August (vocals/guitars), Camilo Barbosa (lead guitars), Andres Gonzalez (bass), Juan Lopez (drums)—aimed high by adapting tracks from their most recent releases, dating back to 2020’s From the Abyss, for a bigger stage, so to speak. Arrangements were created for the performance by frontman August.

The live mix for Symphonic Crows: Live at Santiago Lonoño’s Theater was done by Daniel Herrera, and the album mixing and mastering was performed by Diego Rodriguez at Red Spot Studio. It’s set for release digitally today, December 8, by the band. It can be purchased from Eshtadur’s Bandcamp page here.

Guitarist/vocalist Jorg August had this to say about the live album:

“The shapes that can be explored with a symphonic orchestra reminds me of why I enjoy music so much: the character and the intensity of 40 people giving the music their all. That’s very ritualistic and powerful. This new live album is something I wanted to do for so long.”
