Track Premiere: Sacri Suoni – ‘Dissolve to Reunite in Varanasi’

When Italian instrumental stoner trio Stoned Monkey broke up in 2022, bassist Mattia Cabarelli and lead guitarist Gianmarco De Santis immediately brought to life their next musical project, Sacri Suoni. The next year, they released their first album, Sacred Is Not Divine, and, quickly dove into writing its follow-up, Time to Harvest.

Time to Harvest is, like Sacred Is Not Divine, an instrumental album, one that lures the listener in with hypnotic, sludgy riffs and bright synth melodies floating just below the surface, like on new song “Dissolve to Reunite in Varansi.” When the emotive lead guitars enter at approximately one minute, it’s clear that Sacri Suoni have no need for a vocalist when their music expresses it for them. Drummer Alessio Gavioli is a faithful timekeeper but his performance also gives the song a lively feeling rather than a repetitive one.

“‘Dissolve to Reunite in Varanasi’ unfolds like a sonic labyrinth, built on hypnotic riffs that chase and entwine endlessly,” the band tells Decibel. “The structure of the track suggests both loss and rediscovery, dissolving in order to reunite with a greater whole.

“The title itself holds a philosophical paradox: to dissolve in order to reunite. It is the act of letting go of what one believes to be, in order to be reborn into a more authentic form. By evoking Varanasi, the sacred city of spiritual renewal, the piece situates itself within a universal dimension where music becomes a vessel of transcendence and regeneration.”
