Video Premiere: Malthusian – ‘Delirium’

Dublin-based black/death entity Malthusian made a stir in the underground seven years ago when they released their debut album, Across Deaths, and they followed it up this summer with The Summoning Bell. In between those releases, Malthusian also released a split with Italian black/death dealers Suffering Hour, entitled Time’s Withering Shadow. It’s via that split that we get the new video for “Delirium,” which Decibel premieres today.

The video gets right to the heart of the song, as guitarist/vocalist MB explains:

“A place of pagan worship predating the Christian lore attached to it today. Cruachan Aigle, Croagh Patrick or The Reek as it is known locally, has been a place of worship dating into the Neolithic period and became the focal point of a wider ritual landscape during the Bronze age. From a number of surrounding points there is evidence of sun worship, particularly on the Spring and Autumn equinox as well as the winter solstice.

“As with many pagan rituals, Christianity arrived, claimed it as its own and changed the narrative just enough to suit their controlling intent while still keeping people on the end of the hook. The ritual of pilgrimage believed to have been part of the Celtic festival of Lughnasadh to mark the beginning of the harvest, is still practiced. While the night time climb is not as common as it once was, again a practice thought to have originated in worship of the sun, every year on the last Sunday of July, thousands climb en masse, in worship, in delirium.

“CLEW BAY CULT ETERNAL!”
