Full Album Stream: New Mexican Doom Cult –Ziggurat

Just to be clear, New Mexican Doom Cult aren’t from New Mexico. In fact, this stoner doom quartet originates about as far from the American Southwest as you can get both geographically and climate-wise—Gävle, Sweden, located north of Stockhom, in Sweden’s Northern Lands. But, as you’ll hear from their upcoming new full-length, Ziggurat, they are well acquainted with the whole desert vibe. These dudes—Nils (guitars/vocals), Fredrik (bass), David (guitars), Magnus (drums)—tip their collective hat to Kyuss and Saint Vitus on this rumbling, fuzzed-out and sludgy seven-tracker. Save for the fact that there probably aren’t many musicians named “Nils,” Frederik” and “Magnus” throwing generator-powered jam sessions in Death Valley, you’d never know this band has probably never seen a desert of any description in its existence.

Ziggurat was produced by Jonas Strömberg and Nils Ahnland at Slowbeat Studio. Drums were recorded by Marcus Källström. It’s set for digital release on January 23 via Majestic Mountain Records. Place your preorder here.

The band shared this statement about the new album with us:

“Once again, we claw our way back up from the shattered bricks and eternal dust of the Great Ziggurat of Uruk. Yeah, it’s us, the New Mexican Doom Cult with our new album! Hope you dig it!”
