Season 28 of Respawn Entertainment and EA’s Apex Legends, dubbed “Breach,” is looking to get up close and personal when it launches February 10.
Apex Legends: Breach Preview
New to Apex Legends: Breach are Hardlight Meshes – destructible and repairable windows that transform buildings into close-quarters battlefields.
When intact, players can see through Hardlight, but can’t shoot or move until broken. On that note, players can blast Hardlight apart by dealing damage, speeding up destruction with explosives, snipers, shotguns, or melee attacks.
Eric Canavese, Lead BR Designer, said the following:
“After seven years of Apex Legends, we get really excited about features that don’t just add something new, but also reshape what players already know and love.
With the new Hardlight mechanics, we’re opening the door (and window) to new creative gameplay and combat routes in a way that will have you seeing the Maps and the whole roster of Legends with fresh eyes.
We can’t wait to see how these new entry and defense points shake things up for even the most experienced players who know these environments inside and out.”
Updates to Fuse, Bloodhound, and Catalyst will also make their way to Apex Legends: Breach come February 10:
Explosive Assault Legend Fuse now packs a new Knuckle Jumper Upgrade to leap past enemy defenses, along with a reworked Ultimate to hammer defenders with explosives that clear dug-in positions.
Devin Weise, Senior Technical Designer, said the following:
“Fuse has been in our artillery’s sights for some time now, and the introduction of Hardlight Glass is a great time to bring his updated explosives into center stage.
We’re making all of Fuse’s abilities more cohesive and fast-paced so that he’s equipped to get himself into better positions, and more importantly, get his adversaries out of them.
His new Ultimate has a lot more uses in a lot more places while new Upgrades give him flexibility between improved movement and area control.”
When it comes to Recon Legend Bloodhound, an improved Tactical scan and massively reduced Ultimate cooldown will both make an appearance in Apex Legends: Breach.
Devin Weise, Senior Technical Designer, said the following:
“It’s been a while since Bloodhound was a more popular pick, so we’re rolling out some small but mighty adjustments to their kit.
Bloodhound’s Tactical should feel faster and more fluid whether you’re pushing into a fight or disengaging, and strong play during their Ultimate should now feel much more rewarding.
And this is just the start with Bloodhound. We have more we’re planning to share later in the year, and these early changes will help us lay the groundwork while we collect valuable feedback along the way.”
Finally, Controller Legend Catalyst and her Piercing Spikes can now be thrown farther and triggered faster. This is on top of the new Hidden Spikes and Sole Piercer Upgrades, alongside an improved Dark Veil Ultimate.
Devin Weise, Senior Technical Designer, said the following:
“Catalyst has very unique controlling tools in her kit, but we’d like to amp up her versatility.
With a larger, faster Tactical and more flexible options for both her Ultimate and Upgrades, Catalyst players should feel far more capable when holding a zone.
We can’t wait to see the new types of plays now in the cards with her Ultimate especially.”
A free-to-play title, Apex Legends is now available for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via both the EA app and Steam.
