Blast Worship: Houkago Grind Time

Where they from?
California (NOT JAPAN). The New York Knicks start their quest for a championship this Wednesday against the dastardly San Antonio Spurs. Now would be a good time to appreciate what an absolute alien Victor Wembanyama is. He’s seven-foot four! You could remove an entire foot from his height and he would still clean up on dating apps! Where does he even buy his clothes? At the giraffe store? Knicks in six.

Why the hype?
This Northern California-based one-man project from Andrew Lee of Ripped To Shreds is currently taking the grindcore world by storm! And by that I mean he probably only has to work one day job rather than the three that most grindcore musicians currently have to deal with. Houkago Grind Time is fun, goofy, splatterific goregrind that conjures the best of early Carcass, Exhumed and any other band that uses a pitch-shifter but in a very NOT FROM JAPAN kind of way. And it’s just one guy! And can you take a guess as to what country he’s not from?

Latest Release?
Sorry I am Not From Japan, Obliteration Records. In a sea of goregrind clones HGT stands out simply due to their humor and FUN that excretes from every pore of the music. This is the kind of grindcore album I show to my parents and they say “That’s nice sweetie, but can you please clean your room? We’re having guests over.”
