Combining personal ambition with program pride, EA SPORTS College Football 27 features new ways for players to design their Destiny.
See whether this modern era of college football lives up to the hype with our review…
EA SPORTS College Football 27 Review
EA SPORTS College Football 27 kicks off (heh) by presenting a few game modes to start…
For instance, Road to Glory features the college experience of rising through the ranks to potentially get into the NFL Draft. One’s brief high school career will have players landing a scholarship, with the college experience starting from there.
Playing QB, Michigan picked me up as a second stringer. By the end of week three, I was starting and leading my team to a championship.
Weeks are broken down into two parts: off-field activities and on-field performance.
Players will need to practice to gain experience and skill points, all while spending energy points to hang out with the team, study, gain followers, and rest/recover.
It can become hectic when you become popular and need to make choices between normal life and football life.
When it comes to one’s on-field presence, it’s important to play well to score more EXP.
For QBs, it’s simple: Throw the ball well, and throw the ball often.
There are rewards for moving the ball and getting to the goal line, but you get fewer points if the runner scores. In addition, depending on the coach’s trust level, players can only pick certain plays – and might not even be able to audible.
Needless to say, this really adds to the pressure in EA SPORTS College Football 27.
Those that play well can control the offense; those that don’t are limited by their coach.
In addition to its Road To Glory mode, EA SPORTS College Football 27 also features its Dynasty mode.
Letting players simply pick a team and coach it as long as you want, Dynasty also features goals alongside Road To Glory. Those that complete said goals will get EXP and more cash to upgrade one’s college.
However, things get crazy when it comes to recruitment.
In Madden, there are only so many NFL-capable players; college has thousands to go through. Combined with trades, players can easily spend hours trying to make a great recruitment board.
Then, two games later, another college plucks your number one pick, leading to an intense scramble.
EA SPORTS College Football 27 also features Ultimate Team, a mode EA no doubt wants everyone to keep playing.
After playing a game, it does work – but it isn’t for me.
I don’t even play Ultimate Team on Madden – a game where I know the players. Those looking for free cards can do challenges to earn them; just expect a heavy grind.
My first College Football experience since its relaunch, EA SPORTS College Football 27 didn’t feel like too slow of an experience
That being said, when players being Dynasty or Road to Glory, they can set how fast to earn EXP. Originally nerfed to remove the fastest and fast setting, all players as of this writing can play on easy difficulties and still obtain good skill points.
Some slight bugs like coverage and ball catching issues occurred during the review period, but the fact they go both ways made them easy to adapt to.
For instance, my receiver catches the ball, and the AI defender does the left-right shuffle that completely shuts it down so I can run by.
While far from game-breaking, it just might be rage-inducing for those in multiplayer.
While this modern era of college football isn’t flawless, EA SPORTS College Football 27 is perfect for those seeking their own Road to Glory.
