Sudden Attack Zero Point Interview – Director Kim Tae-hyun Talks Community, Black Market & More
Gamers Heroes
Congrats on 20 years of Sudden Attack!
What was the one thing from the original Sudden Attack release you wanted to include in Sudden Attack Zero Point?
Kim Tae-hyun
The core of what made the original Sudden Attack beloved for so long was its accessibility—anyone can learn it easily and get immersed quickly—along with team-based tactical play centered on the classic Bomb Defusal mode.
With Sudden Attack Zero Point, we were determined to carry over that “easy, fast, and tactical” DNA.
The result is a short, intense combat experience where you dive straight into engagements with no long waits or unnecessary delays.
Gamers Heroes
In addition, what is the one new thing you wanted to include in Sudden Attack Zero Point that wasn’t in the original Sudden Attack?
Kim Tae-hyun
The one thing we most wanted to add was the experience of “building your own weapon.”
We introduced a weapon customization system that lets you combine various parts—recoil, reload speed, appearance, and more—so that even the same gun can feel completely different to play, along with a Black Market where players trade skins, parts, and items earned through play.
Gamers Heroes
I love how you want to foster a fun gaming culture with the NEXON CREATORS Program for Sudden Attack Zero Point!
What went into the design of this program?
Kim Tae-hyun
We see creators not as mere promotional channels but as partners who build game culture together with us.
What mattered most to us was creating opportunities for creators to make content freely, while also putting in place minimal guidelines and a support system so that their creations lead to a healthy gaming culture.
To strike this balance, we went through internal discussion and policy review, and going forward we plan to keep evolving it by continuously reflecting the voices of creators and the player community.
Gamers Heroes
I love how Sudden Attack Zero Point offers quick, action-packed battles!
What were some of the design choices made to ensure it provides a speedy experience?
Kim Tae-hyun
The key was
“Eliminating waiting and delays.”
The maps are designed so that players can enter the main combat zone in the first 10 seconds of each round.
Because of this, securing the main combat zone quickly is a major factor in executing the game’s key strategies.
We also made it so players retain a degree of control when firing while moving, making this a game where fast movement matters.
Gamers Heroes
I also love how Sudden Attack Zero Point features an extensive weapon customization system!
There are a lot of factors in play, including weapon recoil, reload speed, and appearance – what went into its design process?
Kim Tae-hyun
It started from the idea that “the same weapon is used differently by each player.”
In Zero Point, we prepared an experience of assembling “your own weapon” by adjusting recoil, reload speed, and even appearance at the part level.
Our goal was to let a player’s taste and intended strategy show through their weapon, and we linked this to Black Market trading so that customization ties naturally into the in-game economy and progression.
Gamers Heroes
I also saw that Sudden Attack Zero Point will feature the Black Market, letting players trade weapon skins, attachments, and other items.
What are you looking forward to the most with this market?
Kim Tae-hyun
The core of the Black Market is that “what you earn through play becomes your asset, and it circulates among players.”
We wanted to offer another kind of fun—collecting and exchanging—beyond just match performance, through the trading system.
What we most look forward to is seeing the economy come alive within the community as each player completes their desired setup.
Gamers Heroes
Finally, what has been your favorite moment from the Sudden Attack Zero Point Playtests?
Kim Tae-hyun
Through the recent Steam Next Fest demo and the FCBT, community feedback served as an important milestone in development. In particular, we actively incorporated optimization-related opinions to greatly improve optimization after Steam Next Fest, and refined the most important element—the play feel—based on test feedback.
The development team continuously shares its development intent and direction with players and communicates through Dev Notes, and we plan to keep improving throughout the Pre-Season (EA) period.
