Song Review: ATEEZ (Yeosang, San & Wooyoung) – IT’s You

Following last week’s MATZ, IT’s You is the second ATEEZ unit track from their recent album to be given a music video. In my mind, unit tracks should be used to expand a group’s sound, delivering niche genre experiments that suit whichever members are participating. That didn’t exactly happen on The World Ep.Fin: Will, and that’s the producers’ choice to make.

The grouping of Yeosang, San & Wooyoung is certainly a force to be reckoned with, and they deserve a better song than this. IT’s You has moments where it feels like it’s pulling from R&B — a somewhat new element for ATEEZ’s music. This is most apparent during its standout second verse. There are some nice instrumental flourishes here, and it’s satisfying to hear the guys stretch their vocals. However, too much of the track is still slathered in the stylistic vocal effects favored by their production team. This transforms what could have been a crisp, emotive sound into sonic sludge. It’s a missed opportunity, for sure.
