Five For Friday: January 12, 2024

Greetings, Decibel readers!

We’ve got a very death-metal entry for you today, my personal favorite being the demo from Atavistic Decay, newcomers from Indianapolis that have great things in store for them if they keep this up.

Enjoy!

Atavistic Decay – Demo MMXXI

Death metal, at its best, is dark, dirty and terrifying. And oftentimes, you get the best representation of that energy in demos and low-profile underground releases. Atavistic Decay‘s latest is a perfect example.

Domination Campaign – A Storm of Steel

As Domination Campaign shows, the Second World War continues to be a fertile ground for extreme metal carnage. Fans of Australia’s Psycroptic will be familiar with some of this band’s lineup and so should definitely check this out.

Engulf – The Dying Planet Weeps

My previous comments notwithstanding, death metal listeners should always make time to see what cool, well-produced forms of madness comes around as well. Fans of Hate Eternal, Nile, Beyond Creation and Tucker-era Morbid Angel should dig this.

Mourning Dawn – The Foam of Despair

Moody, atmospheric dark metal. The Paris-based band has actually been around for a long time, making them a happy new discovery to dive into. Well, the music isn’t exactly happy. But you get what I mean.

Saevus Finis – Facilis Descensus Averno

Crushing, harsh, big … REALLY BIG-sounding dissonant death metal. If you took Immolation at its most angular and Gorguts at their most unpredictable, you’d get something close to this.
