Hailing from Richmond, Virginia, heavy quintet Prisoner are a force to be reckoned with. Formed in 2012, Prisoner reevaluated their sound in recent years and are back with a meaner, nastier sound that you can hear on new single “Leaden Tomb.”Built on a bedrock of blackened metal and dark hardcore, Prisoner incorporate clanging industrial sounds and hints of death metal, making music that can only be described as violent.
“‘Leaden Tomb’ is specifically inspired by the collapse of the environment, caused by uncontrolled capitalism and the short-term desires of the ruling class poisoning the earth,” says vocalist and guitarist Pete Rozsa. “This song is more the hateful, angry emotional response to this issue. For a lot of my lyrics I reuse the same themes, mostly all of the horrible things human beings do to each other, the earth, other living things. The thing that varies more for me is the tone. A lot of times it’s just burning anger but sometimes it’s sad defeatism. I feel like that reflects how people’s emotional reactions to these problems fluctuate on a daily basis.”
