In tourist areas such as Southern California, spring is known as a “shoulder season.” The weather may be summerlike, and many businesses and attractions are reopening for the season or keeping longer hours. Activities that may not have been available during the winter are starting up again, yet the busiest season of summer hasn’t started yet, so the most popular tourist spots are not yet crowded.
There are also things you can see in Southern California during spring that are not available at other times of the year. In the spring, 20,000 individual whales make their annual migration, and their route is right off the Pacific Coast.
Even though the weather in Southern California tends to be mild and pleasant for most of the year, plants still follow their innate biological patterns. This means that flowers are likely to be at their full bloom during the spring, making a trip to a So Cal botanical garden or arboretum during this time of year something extra special. Southern California is home to unique restaurants offering delicious food in quaint settings.
