Every VIXX Single Ranked: From Worst to Best

I’ve listed my “top tens” for many artists, but it’s time to rummage through entire discographies and rank every single from worst to best. This feature will primarily tackle groups who have disbanded or gone on indefinite hiatus. It’s a way for me to re-evaluate my initial thoughts on their singles run. Don’t be surprised if the order has changed from past countdowns. These things are always in flux!

A dull ballad that pales in comparison to their strongest slow burns. (full review)

24. Walking (2019)

A standard fan service track with gentle, affirming energy.

23. Amnesia (2023)

An underwhelming coda to the VIXX story, delivered by just half of the group’s original members. (full review)

22. Lalala (Ai wo Arigato) (2017)

A nice chorus and vocal performance, but otherwise quite generic.

21. Girls, Why? (with Okdal) (2013)

Soft, melodic and a bit of an outlier in their discography.

20. Reincarnation (2018)

A languid, skittering dance track that skimps on the hooks. (full review)

19. Scentist (2018)

Firmly ensconced in their slinky pop era, Scentist matured their sound in a subdued way. (full review)

Not my preferred sound for the group, but I think it’s the strongest of its ilk. (full review)

16. Super Hero (2012)

A somewhat inauspicious debut from a group who would go on to become quite unique.

15. Shangri-La (2017)

Traditional influences collide with future bass trends in this oft-covered fan favorite. (full review)

A buoyant, disco-kissed culmination of the group’s ultra-packed 2016 era. (full review)

A soft, groovy interlude that tempered the trauma unleashed by the pummeling Voodoo Doll.

12. Can’t Say (2015)

Bounding energy tethered to sentimental, J-pop style melodies.

11. Love Equation (2015)

Lovingly recreates a hit from the 90’s while showcasing their versatility as a group.

10. Rock Ur Body (2012)

An early highlight from their “pre-VIXX” sound. Generic, but very fun.

Their strongest Japanese single and one of their most addictive choruses. (full review)

K-pop bondage never sounded so good.

VIXX go full-on horror with this bloody, industrial stomp.

Pounding EDM, as seen through the group’s idiosyncratic perspective.

5. Dynamite (2016)

A slick funk attack that kicked off their ambitious, multi-part Conception project. (full review)

4. On And On (2013)

A big sonic shift from their earliest material, On And On’s ferocious post-chorus put them on the map.

3. G.R.8.U (2013)

Though the darker shades of their music are often more celebrated, VIXX could also deliver a killer bubblegum pop track. (full review)

2. Hyde (2013)

An early example of VIXX’s edgy, concept-heavy sound, anchored by its jagged, sledgehammer chorus. (full review)

1. Error (2014)

The undisputed champ of high-concept, dramatic sci-fi dance pop. It’s almost operatic in its evocative theatricality. (full review)
