Over the past year or so, Warsaw’s Malk has grown from vocalist/guitarist Maciej Lewicki’s solo songwriting outlet to a full-fledged four-person band, with a sound somewhere in between Glocca Morra and Joyce Manor. They recently finished recording their self-titled debut EP with Kuba Korzeniowski, and it’s slated for a self-release early next month.
In anticipation, we’re excited to premiere the EP’s lead single, alongside a visualizer created by Weronika Szewczyk. It’s called “Your Old Apartment,” and it’s a fiery, noisy emo track that begs to be screamed out to the rafters of a crowded basement. The band’s first-ever single, it’s a great introduction to Malk’s whole deal: two minutes of raucous math-punk, kindred spirits to both the lo-fi charm of Aeroplane and the collegiate weariness of Sports with the sonic dressings of More Friends Than Fans. In other words, look, if you’re a reader of The Alternative, this is for you.
