Song Review: RIIZE – 9 Days

Well, what a nice surprise! Not only have RIIZE released three new b-sides from their first mini album, but they’ve recorded behind-the-scenes music videos for two of them. In both sound and execution, One Kiss and 9 Days are definitely not title tracks, but I still think they each deserve a mini-review.

Compared to One Kiss‘s classic pop melodies, 9 Days feels more in line with today’s trends. It’s a thumping dance track, but one that also makes room for a rap verse and sudden changes in energy. Compared to the straightforward blast of Impossible, these switch-ups feel a little fussy and unnecessary, but 9 Days‘ catchy chorus is always lurking around the corner.

I’m not one hundred percent sold on the song’s main melody yet, but I absolutely love the outro refrain. This portion could have been developed further, as the song ends abruptly after two and a half minutes. I would have loved to hear more of those great synth textures, but I suppose the track’s brief running time only makes you press replay to get back to that fantastic finale as soon as possible.
