Global Pop Round-Up: July 2024 Edition

The Bias List is a K-pop blog that also covers a fair amount of J-pop. But just like most music fans, I enjoy tracks from all around the world. So, I thought I’d start a monthly round-up of some of the non-K-pop songs that have caught my ear. No ratings — just highlights!

Adam Lambert – Deep House

Adam Lambert’s new EP offers six shots of pure dance music. This is the opener, with a title that should be self explanatory.

Alice Chater – Don’t Let My Boyfriend Get In Your Way

Straightforward, house-influenced dance pop. It’s got a very nostalgic sound.

Atlas – Repeat

I’m obsessed with how much this Thai pop banger sounds like Nsync circa 1999. We need more new music with this approach! If anyone knows of other artists pursuing this slamming Y2K dance style, let me know.

Bentley Robles – High Definition Lover

Bentley doesn’t miss. This is a super upbeat banger.

BRÆTZ – Følsom Player

Moving to Norway now, we’ve got a massive club throwback with obvious Y2K inspiration.

Darin – Fantasi

Darin takes us back to the 80’s with a cover of a classic Swedish pop hit. It’s sunshine in a bottle.

Fast Boy – Wave (ft. RAF)

I love the sneaky little Self Control interpolation in this. They’ve got good taste!

Florrie – Looking For Love

Florrie and producers Xenomania craft a chorus for the ages. This is sublime.

Gunship – DooM Dance (ft. Carpenter Brut & Gavin Rossdale)

My favorite pop album of 2023 continues to bear fruit with this new single/mv.

Jade – Angel Of My Dreams

Little Mix’s Jade makes a solo debut with this instant classic. It’s such a K-pop sound, as filtered through Lady Gaga’s glossy glam prism.

Jamie xx & Robyn – Life

Yes, it’s that Robyn! She returns with this life-affirming disco slammer. It deserves to be a song of summer.

Jenni Vartiainen – Viimeinen Pisara (ft. Etta)

Dua Lipa strings meet impeccable Finnish songcraft.

Mabel – Female Intuition

A great late-90’s R&B throwback.

Madison Rose – Falling Outta Heaven

Madison Rose is pop perfection. Falling Outta Heaven is pop perfect. What a rush! This is massive.

METTE – Muscle

METTE is about to take over the world with her sweaty dance sound. Muscle is undeniable.

Neea River – Reached The Climax

Neea River cannot be stopped. Her music is so good, and this is one of the best. I’m obsessed with the push-and-pull dynamics of the chorus.

Portion Boys – Juhannusyö (ft. Kake Randelin)

All the cheesy goodness and bombast you’d expect from Portion Boys. So much fun.

Purple Disco Machine – Heartbreaker (ft. Chromeo)

A synth funk match made in heaven.

Rebecca & Fiona – Älskling

Okay I’m a little late on this but I still have to feature it. The chorus is unbeatable.

Safri Duo – Lonely Days (ft. David Puentez & Jaimes)

Percussive dance music with anthemic hooks.

Samir & Viktor x Fröken Snusk – Sista beställningen

This is a shot of adrenaline. It’s exactly how a summer music festival feels. The chorus is enormous.

The Scarlet Opera – What Good Is Love

Some of the most stirring vocals you’ll find in pop music today. The Scarlet Opera are always awesome, and this song’s soaring chorus encapsulates everything that’s great about the band.

Sigala – It’s A Feeling (ft. Trevor Daniel & 24KGoldn)

Finally, new Sigala music! He’s probably my favorite dance producer of the moment and this is another undeniable smash.

That Kid – Spencer Needs A Ladder (ft. 6arelyhuman)

This is utterly bonkers, like musical shrapnel swirling around your head. I love this kind of hard-hitting electro.

Vincint – Love Me Tonight (ft. Betty Who)

Vincint has been one of 2024’s most consistently fantastic artists. This extends his run. He should be a total superstar by now.

Wilden & Tobaco – Blåögd & Naiv

Impeccable Swedish dance music with a rootsy undertone that makes it feel unique and special.

Zee Machine – Killshot

Zee Machine’s new album is super solid and this is my favorite of the new tracks. Excellent production meets impassioned melodies for a true knockout.
