Southern California’s death rock heroes New Skeletal Faces have signed to Peaceville Records (My Dying Bride, Darkthrone, etc.), and they’re premiering a new track, “Until the Night,” right here at Decibel. We’re no strangers to death rock, having hosted Grave Pleasures (HERE and HERE), Rosemary’s Babies (HERE), and genre originators Death SS (HERE). So, it’s with black lipstick, echoplexing, reverb-drenched guitars, and songs about love and death that we yet again genuflect at the altar of gothic, horror, punky, deathy (lyrically anyway) rock ‘n’ roll.
Said New Skeletal Faces after coming out of their Santa Carla (Lost Boys ref, natch) cave: “We are honored to be joining the Peaceville roster and believe that there is no better asylum for New Skeletal Faces. Being alongside the most intense artists this earth has procreated, we look forward to this camaraderie in spreading our diseased view on what the darkness in rock ‘n’ roll should be.”
The trio–featuring Errol Fritz, KRO, & Don Void–have recorded and mixed their Peaceville debut, Until the Night, with metal studio legend Bill Metoyer (Slayer, Lizzy Borden, W.A.S.P., etc.), New Skeletal Faces aim to rocket from the crypt with their blend of death-themes, goth chops, punk attitude, and rock sex. New single, “Until the Night,” follows the Left Coast noir of “Banshee Sex Tomb,” a track that feels and looks like it was written in 1986. “Until the Night” is more active, eerie, and rife with fang-you vamp attitude. FFO: The Sisters of Mercy, Witching Hour UK, Southern Death Cult, and naturally, Christian Death.
“The video for “Until The Night” captures the true essence of the song and lifestyle of the band,” adds New Skeletal Faces. “Done with little planning and no storyboard, you can feel the uncertain spontaneous atmosphere.”
** New Skeletal Faces’ new album, Until the Night, is available November 1st on Peaceville Records. Pre-order the madness HERE.
