Set in a declining world, Primal Game Studios and Knights Peak invite fans of MetroidVanias and Soulslikes to slash, burn, and rage with their upcoming title Mandragora: Whispers of the Witch Tree.

Mandragora: Whispers of the Witch Tree Preview

For those who have braved Blighttown and the Inverse Castle over the years, Mandragora: Whispers of the Witch channels the best elements of MetroidVanias and Soulslikes to create something truly unique.

What does this mean? A side-scrolling 2.5 action RPG at its core, Mandragora: Whispers of the Witch Tree sets out to combine the deliberate, skill-based combat that put Soulslike titles on the map and pairs it with non-linear exploration in an interconnected world.

And yes – love them or hate them – there are poisonous swamps.

The setting and atmosphere of Mandragora: Whispers of the Witch Tree is oppressive by ddesign featuring crumbling cities and decaying lands. However, players possess the Witch Lantern, which allows players to step into the dark parallel plane of Entropy.

From there, Mandragora: Whispers of the Witch Tree will task players with unlocking abilities that then provide access to new areas throughout its dark medieval fantasy setting.

When it comes to its design, the team stated that  Mandragora: Whispers of the Witch Tree draws inspiration from dark European folklore, medieval art, and classic gothic horror. On that note, the action of this title is paired with an orchestral soundtrack by Christos Antoniou.

When it comes to gameplay, Mandragora: Whispers of the Witch Tree’s combat puts the spotlight on precise dodging, parrying, and timing against its many challenging foes – just the way we like it.

Mandragora: Whispers of the Witch Tree also prides itself on deep character customization, providing six unique starting classes in all: Vanguard, Flameweaver, Spellbinder, Nightshade, Wyldwarden, and Vindicator.

On top of that, Mandragora: Whispers of the Witch Tree also features a flexible talent tree system for players to explore with more than 200 skill upgrades, along with multiple endings based on player choice.

Channeling the best elements of MetroidVania and Soulslike titles, Mandragora: Whispers of the Witch Tree is on track to provide a challenging, deep, and immersive experience when it launches next month.

Mandragora: Whispers of the Witch Tree will come out for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and Epic Games Store on April 17.
