The Gubi 9602 Floor Lamp designed by by Paavo Tynell in 1938 is among iconic pieces in the home.

Studio Brie updated the lighting plan to feature decorative pendants and lamps, including the Alter Table Lamp by Studio Kaytar.

Greenery is drawn into the interiors through large openings to the outdoors.

Mosaic tiles on the kitchen island legs add a mid-century inspired touch.

A 1.5-metre-wide Tigmi woven pendant anchors the kitchen from above.

Vitra Akari lamps throughout imbue the space with warmth and subtle texture.

The bedroom is a more calming space styled with neutrals.

The house supports the client’s carefree lifestyle.

A good interior decorator often takes their clients on a journey by incorporating storytelling into their initial concept.

In the case of this Burleigh Waters project, designed for a music executive and his family, Studio Brie likened their proposal to a music festival lineup complete with internationally acclaimed acts and up-and-coming local talent.

‘We wanted to communicate our design language in a way familiar to the client that they could get attached to and excited about,’ explains Briellyn Turton, director of Studio Brie.

The clients loved the concept, which pushed them outside their comfort zone of typically black, white, and grey interiors.

Building on the concept of the ‘perfect musical festival lineup’, Studio Brie selected furniture by local designers (including Jardan, Grazia & Co, Dowel Jones, So Watt) as the warm and textured base of the space.

Mid-century furniture icons arrive like long-awaited legends to elevate the experience—think timeless designs by Gubi, Eames, Muuto, and Vitra that command attention with their sculptural presence and storied elegance.

Studio Brie also made some key updates to the existing house (designed and curated by Donovan + Co, and built by Joint Builders), including a lighting plan featuring decorative pendants and lamps, and adding mosaic tiles to the kitchen island legs, in another mid-century-inspired touch.

Inspiration for the colour palette throughout was drawn from the existing house and owner’s art collection.

‘The Daimon Downey piece in the living room gave us room to play with a retro palette, for example,’ says Brie.

If this house could be distilled down to just one act on a festival lineup, it would be the headliner, hence the project name!
