Do you ever wonder how a song would sound if it was half asleep? Are you hoping for something so boring that it will actually put you to sleep? Well, idntt has just the song for you with their new “track video” Deep Dream.
The hints are right there in the title. You will be dreaming by the end of this song… hopefully of better songs in the future. From what I can tell, Deep Dream explores that liminal space between sleep and wake and as a soundtrack for that experience I guess it accomplishes its goals. However, there’s got to be a more interesting way to explore this feeling. We have hazy production, hazy melodies and a heavily-processed series of vocals that fade into the ether moments after they materialize. The structure is largely the same repetitive phrasing over and over again — the dullest sing-talk you could imagine. It’s from the Cortis school of monotonous songwriting, but this is Cortis on Ambien.
