Each song promoted from Dino’s alter-ego Picheolin album received a moderate to low rating on this blog, but it turns out he just released all the worst songs because I actually enjoy the rest of the project. Everyone needs to hear the awesome 80s/90s stadium rock pastiche For Jeong And Love, for starters! Then, nestled right at the end of the album is a track credited to Dino himself, minus the cheesy Picheolin schtick.
Judging from Like It, Dino should have simply released a solo album as himself. The song may not reinvent any wheels (it sounds like a Seventeen b-side), but I dig the mechanized groove and atmospheric synths. The vocals are processed, but not to an extent that excises Dino from the song. Instead, the entire production has a polished vibe that works. The chanted chorus could use some actual melody (what else is new?), but as far as these types of dance tracks go, Like It fulfills expectations.
(Fun fact: there was actually a late-80s/early-90s singer called Dino with a hit song titled “I Like It.” The 1989 version wins the “Dino – Like It” battle handily, I’d say. Today’s Dino wins when it comes to visual styling, though!)
