The Alt Weekly Roundup (6/10)

The Alternative Weekly Roundup is a column where our staff plugs a variety of new releases in a concise, streamlined format. Albums, singles, videos, and live sets. Check back each Monday to see what we were jamming the week prior.

Tether – “Visions”

Tether’s new single “Visions” follows last year’s underrated Human Error, and it hones even further the post-hardcore sound they established on that EP. Here’s hoping it’s the first taste of a larger project.

PONY – “Freezer”

PONY doesn’t miss. Only a year after the excellent Velveteen the Toronto duo is back with “Freezer,” yet another immediately memorable pop rock jam.

I Love Your Lifestyle – “Plot Twist”

I Love Your Lifestyle’s 2020 No Driver is a somewhat overlooked gem of lush, filled-out emo. “Plot Twist,” their latest single, sounds even more massive than that album with the band leaning into both breakneck instrumentals and soaring vocals. It’s the first tune off their upcoming record Summerland (Torpa or Nothing), which is split into two halves, the first sung in the band’s native Swedish and the second in English.

Queen of Jeans – “Bitter Pill”

Queen of Jeans will release their new LP All Again at the end of the month, and they’ve just dropped another great single. “Bitter Pill” is equally dreamy and hooky, one of the Philly band’s best songs to date.

Fleuro – Sonic Archives

Fleuro’s approach to shoegaze rocks a little harder than most of their contemporaries’, giving equal weight to the vocal melodies and the big chunky riffs. Sonic Archives, the band’s debut EP, packages “Hollow” and “Buried” with the buzzing “Kota Lelah” and the janglier “Shredded,” along with an ambient intro track.
