Song Review: Fantasy Boys – Undeniable

It’s been awhile since we’ve heard from Fantasy Boys, but they made their mark on 2024 with a very fun summery EP promoted with an excellent title track. Nearly a year later, they’re back with a very different sound. Undeniable is darker and groovier, but as with many boy group songs of this nature its individual pieces are hit or miss.

Undeniable is supported by a catchy acapella vocal riff that forges its main rhythmic backbone. This is a fun touch that instantly gives the song its own identity. In another world, the songwriters might have found a way to craft an equally compelling structure around this loop. Instead, Undeniable quickly segues into the kind of shouty boy group rap that tends to sound the same no matter who’s performing it. This verse gives way to a series of contrasting melodies that move from dramatic to slinky at the whim of the instrumental.

A dynamic bridge injects a jolt of intensity late in the track, but overall I feel like I should love Undeniable more than I do. Despite a few unique touches, the track simply chugs along as expected. This makes for a pleasant — but somewhat unexciting — listen.
