Ludicra never chased orthodoxy—they weaponized feeling. Across records like Hollow Psalms, Another Great Love Song, and The Tenant, the Bay‑Area outfit carved a lane where serrated riffs, helical melodies, and dual‑vocal catharsis hit with both venom and vulnerability. Their hometown reunion at the Great American Music Hall in late 2022 captured that electricity in its purest form. The room swelled with friends, lifers, and new initiates alike, their voices folding into the band’s surge. The recording doesn’t polish those edges away—you hear the crowd, the sweat, the moment. “In Stable” roars with sharpened guitars, lockstep rhythm, and vocals that swing between fury and catharsis—a reminder of just how vital this band remains.
Frontwoman Laurie Sue Shanaman puts words to the night’s emotional gravity:
“All of the Ludicra reunion shows in 2022–2023 were truly a dream come true for me. To reunite with my bandmates that I consider family, to be in their presence, with so many laughs, and to actively work together again, these are memories I will cherish for life. The SF hometown Great American show was especially cathartic. Seeing a sold‑out crowd, packed full with so many friends and the Bay Area music community that continues to thrive, what an incredible honor it was. We knew it had to be documented and shared in some way, and thanks to Ross, now everyone can watch it and feel the love and emotion that took place that night in that beautiful and historical venue.”
Her words underline the sense that Ludicra’s comeback was more than a performance—it was a communal celebration, a convergence of old bonds and enduring scene vitality.
Bassist/vocalist Ross Sewage echoes that bittersweet perspective, reflecting on legacy as much as the night itself:
“I have been lucky to be included in many incredible projects, but Ludicra will always be the project of which I am most proud. The music we were able to create was a challenge worth taking during the time we had together. All good things come to an end, though, and the inexorable march of time goes on. I’m happy, however, that we could preserve this moment, this show, and trap it in digital amber. Ending always hurts, but I am satisfied to share the joy I felt playing again with the members of Ludicra, who I will forever consider to be my family.”
It’s a fitting sentiment: joy tempered by finality, a moment captured for posterity yet still alive in the sharing.
The performance was engineered by Justin Ennis, mixed by Scott Evans (Kowloon Walled City) at Antisleep Studios, and mastered by Jack Shirley, ensuring the recording hits with the same force it carried in the room.
Live at the Great American Music Hall drops October 2 via Ludicra’s Bandcamp, bundled with a download link for the full multi‑cam video of the show. More than a bonus feature, the video is a front‑row seat to the night itself—multi‑camera footage edited by Ross Sewage that captures every sweat‑soaked riff, every howl, and the energy of a sold‑out San Francisco crowd. It’s the closest thing to being there, preserved in digital amber for anyone who missed it the first time around. Watch “In Stable” (Live) below.
And for those looking to dive even deeper into the band’s history, two posthumous reissues are also available now through Ludicra’s Bandcamp: Hollow Psalms (Tankcrimes Records) and The Tenant (Nameless Grave Records).
