The world of Owlchemy Labs’ Dimensional Double Shift is packing its bags for Sporelando next month with its major expansion.
Our maiden voyage into VR, we recently joined Owlchemy Labs “CEOwl” Andrew Eiche for a quick trip to Sporelando at GDC 2026, tapping into that “little kid energy” we all desire…
Dimensional Double Shift Preview – Pack Your Bags for Sporelando!
Following up the New Joysey, Hexas, and Treeattle dimension expansion packs, Dimensional Double Shift’s new swamp suburbia of Sporelando provides a new setting – and another dad joke for good measure.
Taking up a career with other Sporidians fungi locals, we got to work as we tended to things and utilizes Dimensional Double Shift’s cutting-edge hand-tracking.
As somebody who has never tried out hand-tracking – or VR for that matter – Dimensional Double Shift’s controller-free setup made our Sporelando shift second nature before too long.
As a result – we were able to quickly grasp the finer points of plant watering and teamworks as we set out to git’-er’-done.
As Owlchemy Labs CEO Andrew Eiche said post-Sporelando work session, Owlchemy Labs is creating experience that’s both absurd and highly polished – a truly fascinating mix!
“It’s always a balance, right? Absurd and highly polished is both a great slogan and a very dangerous one.
We always pride ourselves in our humor…but most of what people try to do in games is to see if the developers see them.
Can I pet the dog? Did you build the interactivity and do something I would like to in this?” – Andrew Eiche
That attention-to-detail and humor definitely came to light during our Sporelando session. It was silly and over-the-top, but Dimensional Double Shift’s Sporelando experience led to a truly unique experience that we were able to grasp before toolong.
There’s often the talk about creating the next “Super Mario 64” of gaming – a bold claim that signifies revolution in the space.
However, Andrew Eiche is aiming even higher – he wants to achieve the equivalent of the “Super Mario Galaxy” of the VR space.
“Nintendo could have made Super Mario 64-2, right?
That would have been fine, but they went and made Sunshine – and then made Galaxy!
I think that’s a testament to Nintendo’s wonderful philosophy – we don’t feel handcuffed to the format in any of our games.
We know what elements make up the core essence, and then we know what elements we feel liberated to change.
I think that’s what we’re doing here!” – Andrew Eiche
Tapping into strong Florida Man energy, Dimensional Double Shift’s upcoming Sporelando Dimension Pack provides a truly unique VR experience that sets out to capture the absurd and highly polished experience we all crave.
Sporelando will launch for both Meta Quest and Android XR headsets on April 23 for $4.99.
