Song Review: NCT U – Marine Turtle

Over the years, NCT U has acted as a rotational unit to showcase different configurations of members across a variety of genres. This time, it brings together four Chinese members: Renjun, Chenle, Xiaojun, and Kun. Divided equally between WayV and NCT Dream, Marine Turtle offers a nice chance for the guys to show off their vocals.

From what I can tell, ballads are huge in China. So, Marine Turtle‘s subdued energy would feel right at home on the charts. It’s a lovely sound — heartfelt and anthemic when it needs to be. It’s always nice to hear NCT members belt it out, and as we reach Marine Turtle‘s climax there’s ample opportunity for them to bring things to a rousing close. Unfortunately, the song itself is quite dull. The melodies don’t stand out in any memorable way and the production remains too hushed to leave any mark. It’s all very nice and tasteful, but nothing that sticks with me after the song has finished.
