Ubisoft Responds To Star Wars Outlaws Pre-Order Backlash

Earlier this week, several outlets reported on the Star Wars Outlaws pre-order & Season Pass benefits that stirred up quite the controversy on X, Ubisoft responded.

The backlash is mostly surrounding Season Pass content, specifically the inclusion of Jabba’s Gambit, a mission involving the infamous Hutt Cartel and the iconic Jabba the Hutt character.

IGN reported “its highly anticipated Jabba the Hutt mission is locked” while VGC wrote “Star Wars Outlaws locks its Jabba the Hutt mission behind its season pass or $110 premium edition at launch”

The wording of this reporting led some to believe that this was the only mission related to Jabba the Hutt and the Hutt Cartel in Star Wars Outlaws.

Gamers Heroes reached out to Ubisoft for comment, asking whether Jabba the Hutt is exclusively locked behind pre-order or Season Pass content, and were told the Hutt Cartel are “one of the main syndicates in Star Wars Outlaws and will be part of the experience for everyone who purchases the game”.

Jabba the Hutt and the Hutt Cartel are one of the main syndicates in Star Wars Outlaws and will be part of the experience for everyone who purchases the game, regardless of edition. The ‘Jabba’s Gambit’ mission is an optional, additional mission with the Hutt Cartel along Kay and Nix’s journey across the Outer Rim. This mission will be available to those who purchase the season pass or an edition of the game which includes the season pass.

Why are we running with the baseless angle that there is only one Jabba mission…

Additionally, some outlets reported that the only way to gain access to the Season Pass content was purchasing the Gold or Ultimate Edition’s of the game, which isn’t entirely accurate.

Players can subscribe to Ubisoft+ for $17.99 / £14.99, and receive everything from the Standard, Gold, and Ultimate Edition’s of the game.

Editor’s Take
I honestly do not understand the heightened outrage for this situation. Season Passes have been around for over 20 years. Special Editions and pre-order bonuses are nothing new either.

Ubisoft, and many other developers, have used Season Passes and Pre-Order incentives to include additional content for years.

It’s unclear when the Season Pass content will release. The official pre-order page simply states “Two DLCs that will release after launch”.

You would still be able to play the game for a month and subscribe for two additional months, when the Season Pass DLC is released, and still not have to pay more than the Standard Edition.
