Video Premiere: Matriarchs – “The Day You Slipped Away”

Matriarchs have just dropped a new video via Upstate Records for “The Day You Slipped Away.” You can stream the hardcore banger with decidedly metalcore vibes below.

“There are times we lose someone we love to addiction or mental illness and there’s no funeral to be had. Everyone’s still alive and breathing, it’s the connection that has died,” says band co-founder Ben Levi.

“For me, that’s what resonates about ‘The Day You Slipped Away.’ The closure you must give yourself when there’s none to be found,”

“’The Day You Slipped Away’ is a song that resonates with those who have lost someone unexpectedly,” the band add. “One of the stages of grief is denial—which is symbolized by the chorus line ‘wore white to your funeral cuz I didn’t want to cry.’ Another stage of grief is guilt—which is highlighted in the song with “what do I say to those that you have left behind?’ This is a song about going through those stages of grief and the anger that comes with that.”
