Track Premiere: Maneating Orchid Pummel and Puzzle with “Void Engine”

If you know me, it should come as no surprise to know that a band coming along and proudly showing off their Voivod, Watchtower, Dysrhythmia, Gorguts, Spastik Ink, Converge, Cardiacs, Blotted Science, Botch, Discordance Axis and Behold… The Arctopus influences would be responsible for a certain amount of warmth emanating from the cockles of my heart. When such a concoction hails from a place not at all known for bands from the weird/noisy/proggy side of the metallic hardcore spectrum, my interest become doubly piqued. From Bangalore, India comes Maneating Orchid and come June 5th the band will be issuing their third full-length, Cold Logic. From that album, today we present the latest single, “Void Engine.” About the song, the band had this to say: “Sonically, ‘Void Engine’ channels manic punk energy before warping into dense, technical riffage, culminating in a massive, obliterating outro that leaves you suspended in a dissolving void. Thematically, it explores a vast, unknowable machine buried in deep space that seems to shape the very fabric of reality. This Lovecraftian mechanism endlessly churns out existence without purpose or intent, reducing life to a byproduct of an indifferent, eternal process.”
