I expect this to be the most divisive track on the new album because it plays with sounds and textures we haven’t heard from TWS before. One of the reasons I’m so high on this group is that I sense so much potential that hasn’t even been explored yet. Because of this, experiments like Get It Now are very compelling. They offer a peek into what may come down the line in TWS’s discography.
What I love most about this rock/hip-hop hybrid is the vocal performance. There are moments of searing delivery where the members unveil a gritty texture their music hasn’t demanded so far. I love this sound and especially the intensity with which it’s unleashed. This execution makes up for a song that’s a bit all over the place.
At its worst, Get It Now could easily devolve into the kind of shouty boy group bluster I’m usually allergic to. However, TWS just don’t give that vibe even on a track like this. Get It Now is driven by a different type of character and that contrast makes it work. A few moments of tight vocal harmony nod to their strengths while the overall structure acts as a showcase for the more rap-focused members. All that’s missing is a dynamite climax that pulls everything into a satisfying conclusion.
