BACK TO STRANGERS

Back To Strangers is the shortest song on the album, but its brevity actually works. I’m not mad at an album ending on a softer, shorter note. It’s almost like the credits at the end of a movie. Of course, that analogy makes it sound like listeners might be leaving as this song plays and I don’t think that’s the case at all.

This is No Tragedy‘s only ballad and rather than the sentimental fan-song style TWS usually delivers with their ballads this one carries more pathos. Its soft, rock-adjacent soundscape is extremely reminiscent of early TXT, which is a great sandbox for TWS to play around in. The instrumental has a hazy appeal that’s well-textured rather than dull. The chorus is similarly evocative, boasting a nice range of melodies that take advantage of the group’s falsetto. Sure, it could’ve used a bridge to flesh things out further, but this is the rare track that functions fine without it. The incompleteness feels like a function rather than a bug, ending the album on a somewhat ambiguous note.
