The year in K-pop is slowly winding down and we’re squeezing out the last few releases before eligibility for my year-end countdown closes. Girl group RESCENE found their way onto last year’s countdown with the catchy Love Attack, but I’ve struggled to connect with any of their 2025 work. Earlier this month, they dropped a forgettable pre-release. Thankfully, title track Bloom has a bit more pep in its step.
The soundscape here vacillates between trendy, subdued vibes and a more bounding energy during the chorus. It’ll be no surprise that I prefer the latter, which rekindles a sliver of the excitement that made Love Attack such a standout. The hook isn’t as effective here, but the song still achieves a nice sense of lift. It’s nice to hear a proper centerpiece anchoring Bloom. We even get a catchy post-chorus that extends this energy.
If anything keeps Bloom from climbing higher up the ratings, its a sense that the song could have been performed by just about anyone. I wish the producers found a way to showcase the girls’ personalities more fully. Their performance is strong and polished but their tones are so similar that Bloom almost sounds as if it’s delivered by a soloist. With that said, the fact that their skill levels match so well is its own kind of asset and it’s refreshing to hear a straightforward pop track sung so confidently.
