A surefire way to put this writer at unease is to drop the term “vermin.” It’s an ugly word that evokes all kinds of ugly stuff. Perfect fodder for UK technical death thrash outfit Unburier, who are premiering their brand new video for “Survive the Vermin.” We’d love to share our thoughts on the video (directed and shot by Murry Deaves), but it’s so under wraps that we haven’t even peeped it. Which, if it’s crawling with vermin, may be for the best. We have heard the accompanying track, from Unburier’s upcoming As Time Awaits EP, and these dudes—Kim Hughes (drums), Ben Champion (vocals/guitar), Blake Hibberd (guitar/vocals), Stan Mitchell (bass)—have put together a proggy, twisty beatdown that finds its power in its attack, rather than its speed.
As Time Awaits is set for release on February 27 and will be available on CD and digitally. Place your preorder here.
Unburier described their new single like this:
“‘Survive The Vermin’ brings a fresh dynamic to our sound with its mid-paced groove, crushing riffs, and haunting atmospheres. Lyrically, it follows the journey of an immortal warrior grappling with the cost of surrendering flesh for steel, reflecting on purpose, identity, and sacrifice. It’s our most concise and focused work yet.”
