Starfield Free Lanes Update and Terran Armada DLC Preview

The biggest update since its 2023 launch, Starfield’s Free Lanes update and Terran Armada DLC will provide the most complete version of the title when it hits the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC April 7.

We recently joined Bethesda Game Studios’ Tim Lamb during a recent Digital Preview Event to learn more…

Starfield Terran Armada and Free Lanes Preview

Free to all players when it launches April 7, Starfield’s Free Lanes update features a number of improvements designed to deepen the core Starfield experience for both new and returning players.

On that note, this new Free Lanes update makes travel in Starfield easy by opening up interplanetary travel within systems. Letting players cruise, this functionality blesses players with the chance to spend time with their crew and take part in a number of different activities.

For fans of Bethesda’s storied Fallout series, Starfield’s new collectible Colony War Action Heroes set out to tap into the same vein as Fallout’s iconic Vault Boys – gotta catch ’em all.

One can even get themselves a Milliewhale pet as a quest award that can keep players company. Featuring a customizable appearance, the Milliewhale can even play dead!

It’s the little things across the galaxy…

“We’re just looking for things to add to bring joy, coziness, fun, [and] cuteness to Starfield.” – Tim Lamb

Of course, Starfield’s Free Lanes update features the content – and variety! – to keep adventurers busy.

Come April 7, a number of new Encounters, POIs, Dungeons, and more will make their way to Starfield at no additional charge.

New and returning Starfield players will also be able to take advantage of its new X-Tech functionality.

“So one of the things we always want to encourage in Starfield is more exploration.

How do you encourage players to get out there and explore?

We added more resources to the game…a new resource in particular called X-Tech.” – Tim Lamb

Taking feedback into consideration, Starfield players can now upgrade weapons, ship modules, and more through this new X-Tech system.

Found in different places around Starfield’s dungeons, Starfield’s X-Tech system allows players to customize the particular attributes of each weapon to one’s exact liking.

When it comes to the paid Terran Armada DLC for Starfield, players will be able to experience a new questline set across the Settled Systems.

Featuring new characters, locations, enemies, quests, systems, and rewards, this Starfield story DLC will have players contending with the Terran Armada’s robotic forces.

Note that all existing Starfield Premium Edition owners on Xbox and Steam will receive the Terran Armada DLC at no additional cost.

Finally, Starfield will make its way to Sony’s PlayStation 5 come April 7 with all Xbox Series X|S and PC version content present and accounted for.

Pricing-wise, the Standard Edition of Starfield will retail for $50, while the Premium Edition of Starfield will retail for $70.

The PlayStation 5 version of Starfield will also take advantage of Sony’s hardware, supporting the light bar, adaptive triggers, and touchpad.

For those on the PlayStation 5 Pro in particular, Starfield players can choose between a Pro Performance Mode that prioritizes a higher-target FPS, or can alternatively choose from a Pro Visual Mode.

From the upcoming Free Lanes update to Terran Armada and more Trackers Alliance, 2026 is going to be the biggest year yet for #Starfield. 🌌
